My Cars

These are the vehicles that I currently own and constitute my own private fleet. All except for the current "family hauler" are what I work on to relax and have fun. In case there was any doubt, yes, I am a complete sucker for a car that could be really cool "with just a little work". You pick 'em up cheap, and they provide endless enjoyment on weekends and evenings. And an endless place to put that spare money you had (or thought you had).


Previous Cars

These are cars that I have owned in the past, but are mine no more. Except for the the "wife's cars" which got traded in for newer cars, the 1973 Buick Electra (a car that I owned half of when I lived in NJ and sold my half back to the other owner before I moved out to WA), the 1980 Volvo 240 (my son sold/gave it to a friend who is really into Volvo's after he had an accident with it), the 1967 Karman Ghia (sold), the 1990 Chevy Lumina (sold), and the 1982 Yamaha (sold), the rest are, quite literally, no more. I tend not to sell cars, I tend to use them up and then make what's left go away in little pieces. I've listed the status of each car for fun.


Foster Cars

These are cars that I have stored at my house or end up here for work on a regular basis. I don't own them (at least not anymore), I just help their owners play with them. Why? I like doing this, and I have all the cool tools here. :-) I also have cars here that I trek over to other people's house to work on routinely, or that I did at one point in time.


Parts Cars

These are the cars that have graced my driveway - and then ceased to be a car. The various parts they have donated (both exciting and mundane) and contributed to various other vehicles above and various vehicles for other people through sales of still good parts that I did not want or need. If you have never done something like this before, it's great fun. You buy a car, then dismantle it completely to get the things you need. Even all those little nuts and bolts can be handy, so remove all of 'em and toss 'em in some (labeled!) jars for later use. (Voila - your own personal Magic Bolt Box - personalized for you car!) Then you sell off any bits you can that you don't need (to recoup the original cost of the parts car), then the rest goes to the crusher. If you're cheap - and like to have some fun - it's easier to take the car to the crusher when it's in smaller pieces. Especially if you don't own a trailer to cart it there. So, you get to break out the Sawzall and use up a lot of blades. It's amazingly gratifying to take a car and turn it into a hunk of scrap metal - it satisfies a very basic male-destructive urge in a big way. And you can tell the wife you're saving money by doing this whole process - as long as the neighbors don't call the cops on you [ :-) ], how can you lose?



You can't have this many cars and parts cars and not own a car trailer. If I ever get a smaller trailer to haul smaller stuff around with such as parts and yard stuff, I'll post that here too.
